Indian Keys:
Structural Fiberglass 10” x 10” x 3/8” thick wide flange I-Beams supplied by Environmental Composites, Inc. (Tavares, Fl) are installed by Ebsary Foundation, Inc. (Miami, FL) between concrete piling on the boat landing dock at the Indian Keys Florida State Park. After being inspected, the pilings and beams are covered with fiberglass grating providing a pleasant beige appearing, skid resistant walking surface. The spacing between the slats of the Enviro Composite Grating permit sun light to penetrate the water under the dock allowing sea vegetation habitats to flourish.
Structural Fiberglass Grating and I-Beams have excellent corrosion resistance, extending the life of the dock that will be exposed to a variety of hurricane incidents over many years.
Dry Tortugas
The boat landing dock at Fort Jefferson National Park in the Dry Tortugas has been waiting 150 years for a dock surface that won’t get washed away with every hurricane that passes by. The structural fiberglass grating, supplied by Environmental composites, Inc. and Installed by OTAK GROUP, Yulee, Fl. minimizes the potential destruction of the dock due to the unrelenting force of the waves during a hurricane. The 3,000 sq ft area, replaced in 2008, provided 70% open area permitting the waves to flow thru the deck during a hurricane surge rather than lifting and floating wooden deck boards which can also become a navigational hazard. The open area of the dock will now allow the sunlight to penetrate under the dock to foster vegetative growth that will enhance the development of fish habitats contributing to sound Eco System Management.
Environmental Composites, Inc. designs, engineers and supplies Deck and Dock components from standard structural fiberglass materials for installation around the world.
